I just got a nvidia 9600 should I be running the CPU and the GPU client or just the GPU btw my CPU is a P4 3.0 GHZ it sucks
 
I think it will not only depend on you CPU but also your OS, as the GPU client puts a different CPU load under XP or Vista.

If your running Vista then you could probably run both the GPU and classical CPU clients at full speed.

Under XP, one or both of the clients may well run slow.
Then it will be a question of does the points gained from running the second client, more than make up for the points loss from the slow down.
At a guess it will be just one fast one.
But theres nothing to stop you trying two, just in case.

If Vista, you can run the standard client.

If XP, just run the GPU.

Have fun with the GPU settings. I got an extra 1k out of my current 9800GTX by messing with the shaders..... Bet you can get something out of that 9600 ;)

 
Honestly with a p4 having experience I would say don't bother with the CPU. Just go for the Nvidia client. P4's tend to have much higher utilization then a Core 2 feeding a GPU. I am seeing 100% utilization on a p4 @ 3.6Ghz feeding a 3850. For comparison sake.

 
I have to agree with others. The P4 if in XP will be maxed out feeding the GPU2 client. I'm looking to stick an upgraded GPU in my P4 just to run the GPU2 client. It did run the SMP client, made deadlines, but was a serious power draw and was hotter than HELL.

 
Ok quit the CPU client just running GPU now, what did you mean by tweaking the shaders you mean in a program other then the GPU client to mess with the cards settings linkage to the program?

You can do that with either Rivatuner or EVGA Precision.

 
ok cool then second question is there a live way to tell how much faster my GPU is folding, and why are stats always down on the stanford site?

EVGA Precision also have a monitor to show the speeds as well if that's what you mean. If what you mean is to see if the folding speed improve, just look at fahmon and see if the ppd increase.

The stats isn't always down, it's down for 10 mins every hour and you probably happen to hit it at the wrong time. Another way to see the stats is to go to www.hardfolding.com then lookup under your name since it's a improved mirror of the Stanford stats with much more statistical informations.
