Coming from a P4, I'm sort of a noobie when it comes to dual or quad cores. I've searched the Net and for some reason can't find the answers to these questions anywhere:
1. My new WinXP office machine has an E6400. It showed only one core running in CPU-Z, and one graph in Task Manager/Performance. Therefore I assume that one core is disabled and my PC is "crippled" a bit, not performing at its full multicore potential. Is this correct?
2. I poked around and found the /NUMPROCS parameter in the BOOT.INI/Advanced section of msconfig. Set the number of procs to 2 and rebooted. Now it shows 2 cores. Was that actually the correct way to solve the problem, though? It's strange that I find very little reference to this switch on the Net. If that wasn't the correct solution, then what is?
3. Do any of you guys ever need to set the Affinity for one CPU or another with any of your apps? Just wondering.
Thanks
