I just got an E6420, and when I run CPU-Z, it shows a speed of roughly 1200 Mhz. This sometimes jumps to 1600 Mhz. The bus speed is shown as 200 Mhz.

Is this normal behavior for a Core 2 Duo? I'm pretty sure everything was configured properly in the BIOS, but I'm going to restart and check again.

Assuming this is normal behavior, and I wanted to take a screenshot showing the full, actual speed, would I need to run something intensive in the background to ramp up the proc's speed?

Bah, right from CPU-z page. I should have RTFM'd! Any suggestions on something I can run in the background to load up on the CPU, but not like a game or anything else full screen, so I can still see CPU-z?
 
should be between 1600 and 2130mhz (1600 would be speedstep and normal), your FSB should be 266mhz not 200mhz!
 
The strange thing is, my BIOS is reporting the FSB to be the correct 1066 Mhz, but CPU-z is not.

EDIT: I flashed the BIOS to the latest version, and it's doing the same thing. My BIOS is set to use 1066 Mhz as the FSB and the memory bus is correctly listed as 667 Mhz.

I'm stuck at an 800 Mhz FSB, and I don't have any options to manually set this in the BIOS, despite the fact that the BIOS is reporting the FSB to be 1066. I also tried disabling EIST.

On a side note, is there some patch or update to apply to Vista? I had this PC running with a Pentium D 915, until I swapped that out this morning.
 
I found this patch, but was told it didn't apply when I tried to run it.

I'm thinking this is definitely a Vista problem. I have the above patch already installed. I also have the power options in Vista set to High Performance, with the min and max of the CPU at 100%.

I also booted to a BartPE disc, and it read the processor correctly, and identified the processor correctly.
 
Check Bios and turn off Speedstep.

You should be able to change FSB in bios it will be something like 8*266 or so.
 
It doesn't appear that my Intel board has any manual setting options. I thought I had Speedstep disabled today before I left work, but I'll have to check it again.
