Hey all,

Ok, i just bought a new motherboard:
MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=K7N2_Delta-ILSR

I installed a new CPU = Athlon XP Thouroughbred 2600+

I am having problems getting my OS to boot (winxp).

There are 3 IDE slots on the board. IDE 3 is for raid which I am not going to use right now. I plug my OS drive into IDE 1.

The board recognizes my Maxtor (os drive), but it seems not too boot the OS. What happens is this:

On the first boot screen it shows that it sees my maxtor as primary master, then on the second boot screen something flashes quite quickly saying "Cannot find drive connected to fast track controller".

It then brings me to the windows boot selection mode screen, you know, where it says safe mode, safemode with networking etc. Start windows normally is highlighted, but it will not allow me to move the selection up or down.

After it counts down to 0, it quickly flashes the windows bootup screen, then VERY quickly flashes this blue screen with some text on it (too fast to read), then reboots.

I have no clue what to do, and I am curious as to if you guys can help.

Thanks alot

Try booting to your cmos. THen go to ide configuration and make sure you disable on board raid controller or at least make sure the on board raid controllers are not set as boot device enabled.

Then back out and go to the boot sequence section and make yourcd rom first device and your hd 0 (ide 1) 2nd boot device.

Then reboot and cross your fingers.

Good luck Kymosobey

P.S. This assumes a new install of XP
if your trying to use old os install with all new mobo your in for a a headache. You may get away with selecting repair when you boot off the xp cd but DUde...........its always better to go clean install on a new mobo . Realy man, dont be lazy

Thanks for the replies. I am planning on reinstalling windows later this week, i just do not have the CD now. I wanted to try and salvage some stuff before I reinstalled.

Ill try what you said, thanks.

Always always backup your data, and clean the partitions off the drive when upgrading the motherboard. Your data is safe, and when the new system is built, you can immediately install a clean fresh copy of the OS.

Your totally right man,
I just bought a new DVD burner and was in the process of backing up all my data. Then all of a sudden my mobo died and i had to upgrade. I just have a *couple* not really that important things on my OS drive. Most of my important data is on my other two drives. Is there any way to save it?

you could try installing OS without formatting - but I advice against doing so... I'd connect the drive to a working comp and copy whatever you want...

That's absolutely the safest way to do it. Copy your data off, and when your completely sure you have it, delete the partitions on the slave drive. Take the slave drive back to your PC and install the OS again.
