Stripe Size

I did a search and didnt really get the answer I was looking for. I have two Hitachi 70Gb in RAID 0 and can you switch the Stripe size after you have it set up and working, and if you can, what a good stripe size? Right now its set at 64k.

I'm pretty sure to change the strip size you would have to delete and re-create the array, meaning that all the information on the drive would be wiped. I have mine set to 128k strip size.

I am sure this is wrong, but how it was explained to me was their is no "best" Stripe size. It all depends on what you do, what kind of files you work with and what not.

I had Dual Raptors in Raid 0 and set my Stripe size to 16K and it seemed to give me the best speed for me.

Also, I think someone said that the faster your disc's spin, the lower the stripe is better for you.... But im not sure if their is truth to that or not.

A) You will have to destory and rebuild to change the block size.
B) The 'best' stripe size depends on what you are using the drives for - smaller for linear transfers, bigger for random loads.
C) The swing in overall desktop performance/responsiveness when going from the largest stripe available to the smallest is not great. The boost in file transfer speeds when going with the smallest stripe size is pretty significant, but is only noticed when moving files to another disk in the system or over quality GbE.
