I am trying to find the optimal Stripe size for a Raid 0 array I need for Abobe Photoshop Scratch Disk. Any input?

ZOMGz RAID0 are teh sucks and are unfaultuntolerable!

I'm no expert, but I use 64K on my two Raptors and it seems to be quite snappy. Windows boots in about four seconds, and my games seem to load slightly faster. By far, the biggest benefit it not in application like that though, my Raptors really shine when copying and dealing with gigabytes of data like I do. I say 64K.

The best approach would be to create a custom benchmark (e.g. Photoshop actions) and try different options. No internet advice is going to be better than what you see for yourself.

I think the best strip size will depend in part on the access sizes, the number of drives, and perhaps your RAID implementation.

For my needs, I've had some success with 8K and 16K stripes for usually 3-4 drive arrays.

For your needs, I won't blindly guess, and would like to hear of the results!

Linear reads of files for Photoshop? As small as the RAID BIOS will allow.

And no, I'm not going to serve up the RAID-0 Haterade, as the OP is using it for increased throughput in a workstation application, a worthy use of a RAID-0 array.

I saw one benchmark with 128K stripe size, but I really don't know if that is optimal. I would venture a guess and say that it makes less of a difference that you may think. If you believe this to be an important factor, why not do as the previous posted suggested and bench it yourself?
