I saw this at Kotaku today. The same company already features a program for streaming Mac content to the Xbox 360 so it’s about time PS3 Mac owners got some love too.

Thanks to NullRiver, who have already got Macs and 360s talking, your Mac will soon be able to stream your music and movies to your PS3. And not just stream, but do nifty things like show your iTunes album art and stream an iPhoto slideshow to your shiny big HDTV.

I'm rather surprised it took this long, honestly. The PS3, Wii, 360, and PSP all support DLNA media streaming at this point, which is pretty much a rock solid standard. Granted even the best of the computer based servers I've tried (which is most of them) don't support a good 1/5th of my media files, you'd think it would be easy to put something together.
It probably has to do with the relative scarcity of open source codecs available for Mac. Unless the file you want to play is natively supported by the device, streaming only works if you can recode the file from whatever format it's in to something the device can understand. On Windows you've got ffdshow, which gives me my 80% compatibility rate. (Can't play anything with multiple subtitle or audio streams, or it does play without either.) On Mac you have VLC, which isn't DLNA compliant to my knowledge, and a couple others which are, but aren't very compatible with anything you didn't get from iTunes.
From what I can see, Macs have a LONG way to go before they're caught up in this area.
