Strange problems

To begin, here is the prologue to this thread:

After performing what was mentioned in the link given, I am having some major issues. First, the main computer I was using to accept the other hard drive in order to pull information off of it is now giving me fits. It automatically turns on as soon as you plug it into the wall and does nothing. Then, every time it is turned on, the fans start up, and then it suddenly stops booting and idles for about 2-3 seconds then turns back on. It is very strange. Happens every single time it is turned off then on again. It never boots, and I never get video.

Also, the "source" computer (the one the hard drive was being used from) is having problems. First, whenever one IDE cable is ran and the primary is hooked to the CD Rom and the slave is hooked to the slave, the computer will not recognize that anything is hooked up. I disconnected the CD Rom and hooked the hard drive straight up as primary and it recognized it. They will NOT work simultaneously, on either IDE port. I even tried a different IDE cable.

Next, whenever the Win98 (ancient, I know) loading screen finishes, I lose video, but still hear the hard drive going frantically. I am just wondering if the screen resolution settings are set to something that my Westinghouse LCD TV won't support? I was forced to use this TV after my (already old) monitor finally died.

I am just wondering if these problems are the result of using two different power sources to try to extract this information from the source computer? It doesn't seem possible that two very strange and unrelated problems would come out of the situation.

I am just having horrible computer luck lately.

Any ideas? I don't really care about the non-functioning computer at this point, just wondering why I can't simultaneously run the hard drive and CD Rom.

sounds like a psu issue.

did you set the jumpers properly? instead of using cable select, which requires a proper cable, try manually setting the jumpers to master and slave, respectively, on each drive.
