Strange i7 overclocking problem.

So i got this i7 920 and i was doing some relatively mild overclocking on air,(Scythe Mugen 2) Anyways I can run prime and intelburn test till the cows come home, but if i leave my machine for a few hours idle or just downloading something it will get a BSOD after about 4 hours or so. (sometimes its IRQL_not equal or whatever, sometimes its a running service or program such as server.sys)

i have backed it off a couple of steps BCLK and it is fine now.

I have hyper threading and turbo enabled, and i dont really want to disable them. any ideas of what i should bump or disable to stop that from happening?

the board is an asus p6t SE, with 12 GB OCZ 1600 reaper and a nvidia quadro 4600(for now)
Onboard extra IDE chip is disabled.
volts on cpu = 1.3
BCLK = 170 (crash) 168 = fine
memory volts = 1.6
uncore = 1.3
memory is running below spec at 1340
temperatures are very reasonable, depending on ambient, around 66 when rendering with all cores with max/vray or running intelburntest.


any ideas much appreciated. thanks.
 
sounds like its crashing when its down clocking because of speedstep.. maybe try raising the cpu voltage 1 notch higher.. 1.305 or 1.31 and see what happens.. disabling HT and turbo's most likely not going to fix this anyways so dont worry about that..
 
Do you have your memory overclocked.You might need to up the voltage or lossen the timings
a bit.
