Strange hard drive problem.

recently i took the front face off my case, i have a dell L933r and this back room, my computer room doesnt have ac so it gets a lil hot back here, but i took it off so it could have a lil more air flow, any way i started noticing today that my hard drive is making strange sounds, like just right now, as i type this i just heard my hard drive make a strange sound, like the sound it makes when i shut down my computer, but a few seconds later, it makes another noise like when i turn on my computer, like the hard drive is turning on, its not affecting my system performance so far but im worried.

is my hard drive dying?

oh and by the way i checked my power settings to se if maby the option for system stand by had ben changed, and it's still at never, the only thing i have set up to turn off is my monitor after 1 hr.

So your saying It sounds like your hard drive is starting up and shuting down?

If so the hdd is probably going out or the psu is feeding it bad power/choppy power causing that.

but this just started happening today, this morning when i woke up and moved the mouse to make hte screen come n, it made that sound, i thought it might have gone on stand by and was starting up, but it's been doing it all day.

also another probem i have is that some times when it crashes, it wont reboot normally, it hangs at the win2kpro start up loading screen, right befrore it gets to windows.

so usually i just unplug the power from the hard drive, not the ide cable, leave it unpluged a few mins and when i plug it back in it boots up fine.

oh and by the way, i didint know i wasnt suposed to post it here, sorry.
