I moved a wireless router the other day (WRT54GL) in an effort to get better range. I just ran some patch cords and extension cords loosey-goosy to try it out. Boosted the sgnal to from 28 to 100mW in DD-WRT. Everything was fine. Then I added the 7db antenna upgrade also a couple days later.

After that, every time the laptop (wireless) comes onto the network, it knocks out the WAN connection. Nothing will work reliably until the laptop gets shut down again.

Today I redid the cabling more permanently, and used shielded cat5e for good measure since there is also a fair number of AC power cables & conduits in the vicinity. The laptop no longer causes any interruptions - seems to be fine now.

Are wireless signals (especially boosted) known for casuing interference like this?
