I am looking for input for an idea I have for a client, they currently have a few offices that are connected via a private 10MB connection, backups happen onsite and to tape which is taken offsite but not all the data can fit on the tape so its not a great solution. Rather then look at cloud solutions I'd like to do something similar for them internally. I realize the 10MB connection would have to be upgraded and have already got pricing to upgrade it to 100MB, but I am not sure what to do for storage. The current environment is mostly virtual with seven VM's and one physical server. Its a VMware environment and Veeam is being used to backup and replicate VM's to a second host onsite. I'd like to start by doing backup copy jobs in Veeam to the offsite location and well as duplicating other data to the offsite location. I am thinking about perhaps an off the shelf NAS from QNap for Synology, I don't have a formal plan or budget yet, just brainstorming at this point. The customer has a Veeam Enterprise edition license. Eventually I would like to replace the server that is onsite for replicas, and put it in the offsite location, currently their exchange server is replicating anywhere from just under a gig to as much as 1.5GB every hour and an application server is replicating about 2-300MB every half hour.
