I'd like to spend about $400 ~ $500 for a trouble free computer. I need the computer for business apps, internet, copy dvd movies and photos. Which would be a good mobo and chip. Thank you

$400-$500 for the whole thing? Or just the mobo/cpu?
 
Sorry, just mobo, chip and memory. This is my problem: I got a sempron 2800+ and abit NF8 mobo to replace my P4 2.6GB and IC7 mobo (which I gave to my brother) and I'm not very happy.
 
An Intel 945P mobo coupled with a P4 640/820 and 1GB of DDR2 would fit you fine...The most trouble free config there is.
 
I had my eyes on a Northwood 3.4ghz and Abit IC7 about $350ish. I already have a 512mb PC3200 stick already for this setup.
 
no reason to buy a northwood. the 3.4 is going to insanly expenisve, the IC7 is still expensive, and youre buying into an old platform. bad idea, IMO.
