Hi everybody!

My gal wants a computer, i have a XP1800+ and fan, hard drive, i was looking at motherboard and cases etc, and it's a bit overhelming for me, who doesn't know anything about SFF! What am i looking for mobowise, what's the form factor of thoses mobos and cases? (i can't search if i don't know what i'm looking for!) Any recomendations about a bundle, case psu mobo, wich would have line in and out, and onboard video good enough to look at dvd's, and a lan for the dsl modem?

Thanks and best regards.

Max.

For a XP1800+ at stock speeds, a Biostar 200V or 210V would work nicely as an entry-level AMD AthlonXP SFF. If you are lucky enough to get the newer versions with the better exhaust and side panels, they can be pretty quiet with reasonable temps.

If you are willing to spend more a Shuttle or Biostar nForce2 based SFF is better for overclocking.

On the cheap, I'd probably still go with a Biostar 200V or 210V though. They already come with a HSF for the CPU, onboard sound, onboard video (Unichrome) that supports MPEG-2, and integrated LAN. You would just need CPU, HDD, optical drive, and RAM. You can add an AGP video card later if the onboard video isn't good enough.

I would go with an Antec Aria and a Nforce 2 Micro ATX Motherboard with Integrated graphics.

Something like the:
ANTEC ARIA Micro-ATX Case and

ASUS "A7N8X-VM/400"
or
ABIT "NF7-M"
or
EPoX "EP-8RGM3I"

Thanks a lot guys!

Well, i've checked your sugestions, and i should admit if i can find cheaper, i'd like to! It's not for me, it's a present for my gal, who hasn't got a clue about comps! Myself i run full tower and scsi dualies! A random white SFF case is what i'm after! Room for 1HDD 1 floppy and a DVD/cdrw combo. Front usb etc are a plus but not nescessary! I was looking at a PC chips M825G board 35 dols at newegg! If i find a case in the same league, cheap 512mb ddr, and a 30 dols cdrw/DVD combo and i'm sorted!

Thanks a lot again for your replies, and best regards.

Max.
