so... i have a I5-750 with a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H I currently have a Samsung F3 1TB hard drive.

I would like to get a SSD for it in the next few months, but the more exciting new SSDs seem to all be SATAIII while I only have SATA II (I also have no option to put an PCIe SATAIII controller cause both PCIe slots on my mb are occupied (6870 and TV card). Also I could either upgrade to SB w/ it's SATAIII or get a SSD but not both certainly ($$$ wife would kill me :)).

So I guess I'm not clear how bad a fancy new SATAIII SSD would be hobbled being on SATAII controller but also I'm not sure I want to spend money on what would doubtlessly be outdated SATAII SSD drive since probably in a year or so I would be moving to upgrade to Sandy Bridge (or something better depends on what is out).

I have been looking at trying to not go over $200 (max). thoughts ??

It won't make a huge difference. You will lose some performance on sustained reads and writes using it on the SATA 3G, but it will still be much faster than a traditional hard drive. The biggest advantage of the SSD is the random performance, because of the near-zero seek times, and SATA 3G will not have an impact on that.

get the best SSD that you can afford.. Even on your SATA2 motherboard, it will still kill any regular hard drive.

Eventually when you get a new computer, use the same ssd and it will be even faster :)

Ya, just get one. You will love it. It really makes things fast... and reliable.

Well it depends on what you do with your system. If you are constantly taxing your CPU to 100%, then upgrading to Sandy would be a great benefit.

If you have everything installed on 1 drive that's a huge system bottleneck. Even if you don't want to get the SSD now, I would recommend at least using a dedicated drive for your OS/APPs & put everything else on the Samsung (unless you don't really have many/large/etc personal files you access often). If you do that will make everything much snappier and you won't have those lags that can be experienced using one drive. If you get the SSD the snappy performance will be even that much faster.
