A friend of mine was having some problems ripping cd's so she wanted me to have a look. I re-installed the drive and that seemed to take care of it at least temporarily (turns out the drive may just need to be replaced.)
Just for fun I loaded ad-aware on her system because she has no software like that. It of course found a lot of spyware on her system and after running AVG some viruses too.
The strange thing is that she didn't mention any other real performance issues aside from the CD problem. She is on dial-up so I don't know if that matters but I'm wondering if it's possible (just out of curiosity) for her to keep running the machine with all this stuff on it if she's not experiencing any performance issues.
