Spraying a Stencil Design

Yo,

I have a specific question regarding my first case mod a custom paint job and window on my Antec 300. I thought I may as well ask the experts :D

I plan to spray the interior, front bezel, and panels of my Antec 300 with a strong Red and White color scheme inspired by the fantastic game, Mirror's Edge.

The paints I bought are:

Plastic primer (For the bezel)
Metal primer
Red car paint
White car paint
Clear lacquer

I think I know how I would go about painting a side panel a solid color: sand the metal, apply two thin coats of primer, leave for an hour or so, wet sand, paint with a few thin coats of desired color, apply clear lacquer. (Please correct me if this process is wrong!)

However, I am unsure at which stage in the process I would apply my red stencil design (the mirrors edge logo).

Could I spray it directly onto the white car paint?

Or would I have to mask out the area when I apply the white, leaving bare primer to hold the Red paint?

If you're interested, I also plan to install a window with a red tinted perspex, add a couple of red LED fans, a Red cathode to light up the window, and a silver scythe kaze master fan controller.

Thanks guys, I hope you know the solution to my question.

Cheers,

Joe

I would say paint the logo on the primer, then mask it and cut it out. Then spray the primary coat ontop of that and then just peel off the tape. That's how I did my 360. Make sure you let it dry real well first, I say 48 hours before you mask the logo, else you be lifting paint off the metal, happened to me once after letting it dry 24 hours. You could do it before the clear coat but you always run the risk of bleeding and splotching. Masking makes it come out nice and sharp.

You said that you plan on using auto paint on this. In order to get the stencil to work the best make sure you use a high quality tape that is designed for car paint. Also make sure you do very light coats, let dry, and repeat to avoid bleeding.
