For those who dont know what they are. they are essentally a set of tags that color the words (and background or so they match the background) so that the text cant be seen without highlighting.

it comes in useful when delivering the punchline of a joke. or wanting to hide a smart ass remark. or reveal a surprise after a bit of suspense. it would be easier than making text small and picking out a color that is unnoticable. it also is a superior substitute imo to the annoying:
....
(scroll 4 pages)
....
read here, hah hah, got ya, made you look, etc etc.

these delay tactics for emphasis are kinda crude and they would be better served by a new tag

------------------------------------
The tag would resemble
Highlight this text
to read it

Some other word possibilities are "hidden", and "discreet"; in the place of "spoiler"

------------------------------------
It should be fairly easy to code for, and i think a simple compromise might be to just add a color that was really hard to see on the default forum background, if not identical to the forum post background. (i believe identical could cause some abuse issues though)

------------------------------------
Personally, I would like it to show up as:

Hidden:
Hidden.jpg

Revealed:
Revealed.jpg

of course, your highlighted colors may vary

------------------------------------
While it may not have a bunch of usefulness in the majority of the forum, i think it would become a great edition for genmay forum, and may have some benefits in other forums when a point is being made.

Just choose black type for the hidden message and it is invisible until the reader chooses "Quote" and then it is visible against the white background ;)

Hit the quote button

on my LCD that color shows up just fine and legible, without highlighting or going through a quote page.

only 450:1 contrast ratio on my LCD.

maybe that trick works on CRTs that are close to dead.

Or just right click and hit copy and the line appears

UGH!!! I've said this millions of times in numerous forums that don't have a spoiler tag thingy...do the following:

Now you see me...

and now you don't!!! <---highlight

How did I do that??? EASILY...look and learn:
PHP:
and now you don't!!!

First you start off with the left bracket...then "color=" will let you type in a hex number/letter/code/thing/whatever the hell they're called...anyways..."#222222" is the background for the posts for this forum...what happenes why the text color is the same as the background color??? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? It means that the text in invisible...it's there, just the same color as the background...

Now do this and don't give our mods more work to do...;)

i can still see that without highlighting...and this is on a crappy crt at work!

can you now? I screwed up and used #343434 instead of #222222...

BTW...if u use my way tthen you can't quote any spoilers cause quote boxes have a different color background of #333333

Oh cool I didn't know you could put hex values in the color tags.

And incase anyone ever decides to try making spoiler tags for the forum, I suggest having a look at AnimeSuki's forum and finding a post with their spoiler tags, they're really great.

I see it just fine, no highlighting needed, 'cause I use my own custom skin. ;)

fuck yeah, im going to use this everywhere, so much better than a spoiler tag, though i still think it would be used in genmay only, how many genmayers voted on this?

Lookk at metallica's edited post and you will no longer see them. As he states, insert value: 222222 and text becomes invisible.

I see no reason to make the [H]forums more like the awful forums.
You want to add a spoiler learn the color codes.

i have, though i wish it was a drop down color, like i suggested, to make it faster
