Speed differences between x800xt-pe & x850xt?

Other than the clock speed differences: 520/540 for x850xt & 520/560 for x800xt-pe, are there any artitectural differences between the 2 cards that would make the x850 faster? I can't seem to find a review comparing both cards..

Sweet FA. The X850 series was really only introduced to solve the problem of low yields with the X800XTs. I believe the X850 has slightly looser memory timings/memory controller optimisations, and will therefore usually allow slightly higher clocks on both core and memory. As evidenced by the X850XT-PE being faster than an X800XT-PE.

the x850 may overclock higher but at stock there would be no way you could tell the difference.

The reason I'm asking is because a few months ago, I got a chance to try out an x850xt in my system. With the system in my sig and oc' the card a bit, I hit over 24K in 3dmark. A little while ago, I set my x800xt-pe to just about the same clocks, and got just over 22K in '01. I wanted to know if it was the change in card or if something else was affecting the performance.

the x850xt's are slightly fastyer in synthetic benchmarks such as 3dmark05...but in game wise a x850xt would perform the same as a x800xt pe....(both stock)

Hmm, interesting. That's what I suspected. What is it about the x850 that makes it faster in synthetic benchmarks?

yodster: Yeah, I noticed that too, but never got a chance to run the benches again. I'll have to give it a try and see what's up with that..

Yodster: Just updated my '05 score. Does that seem more in-line with what it should be? I kinda lost interest in 3dmark a while ago...
