Speakers for PC

I am looking to upgrade my ancient PC speakers. Price range is $30-60. A 2.0 setup is all I need, though if a 2.1 can be had in this price range then I will look into it. I use my motherboard for audio as I don't have a separate sound card. Audio jack based would probably be preferred to USB unless there is a reason to go with USB over them.

Any brands and specific models I should look for?

Edit: Primary use of the speakers will be for gaming.

I hear Genius makes good pc speaker sets.

There is also the B652 - T-Amp combo out there that would eventually get mentioned here. It is bigger, clunkier and a small bit more complicated to get set up though.

Thanks for the reply. The Genius SW-G2.1 looks rather nice for the price of $47.

I was originally looking at this Logitech:

As someone who knows nothing about the quality of speakers which of these two sets has better specs?

Also forgot to mention in the OP, but I use speakers almost exclusively for gaming.

I would definitely go with something that has a subwoofer if you'll be gaming "almost exclusively". It really adds to the experience. Also, as always, if you're willing to raise your budget, you will be able to get something more substantial.

EDIT: Why limit yourself to $60 for something you will hopefully enjoy for years to come?

So a 2.1 it is. I'd wish I could spend a bit more, though if there is something significantly better for $80 or so I am open to suggestions.

Some "SATA multimedia speaker" from 10 or so years ago, maybe more. I think just about anything I get will be better. Needless to say I am expecting a noticeable difference in sound quality even at $60.

Just make sure that whatever you decide to get has a decent amount of postive customer reviews. Check sites like Amazon.com, Newegg.com, and any other online electronics retailer.

Probably just Best Buy though I am not sure if they have the $60 or so speakers there. I think they only have the $300-1000 models. Worth checking I guess. Maybe Best Buy will provide something useful?

Yeah Best Buy is worth a look. All the Best Buys near me have the "Insignia 2.1" speaker system in stock, and those would definitely be an upgrade from what you're used to.
