i wanted to connect my streo speaker to my computer so i bought a Y-cable from compusa and tried to connect it...but it's not working properly.

my streo has an audio in, then i plugged the other side of the y-cable to my microphone jack on the computer. when i plugged it to the headphoen jack, the sound came out all scrambled...

any idea how to set my stereo so it would play as computer speakers?
 
get a y-splitter that also changes from standard headphone style male plug to stereo rca female, then you get a standard rca audio cable, and plug it into the AUX plugs on your stereo. thats how i used to do it.
 
You need to plug the adaptor into the line-out of your soundcard, and into an input of your stereo. Try another input.

sorry...i'm really retarded when it comes to technical terms or names,

does this mean i need to get more things?

also...how do i find the line-out of my soundcard? i've literally tried every plug back of my soundcard and it still doesn't work

edit:
i actually think i'm doing everything right..except not setting the stereo right. how would i set my stereo to it's auxiliary channel?
