So, my old Cambridge soundworks 4.1s which I've had since the mid/late 90s are starting to get wonky. My wife have been hearing other stuff through the speakers. Sounds like telephone calls or radio shows but she is annoyed by it. it is very constant. I had to turn them off the other day because they started playing very loud static for no reason at all.

So I assume they are old and not shielded well. My logitech system doesn't do this.

Speakers have to 4.1 or 5.1 (I would perfer 4.1) and under 100 bucks.

DO NOT WANT 2.1......
 
If it's a powered system, it's most likely that the electronics have gone south after 20 years of use and that's why you are getting these problems. I doubt it's a new interference problem that could be resolved by ferrite magnets. You would normally put the ferrite cores on the cables that are picking up the interference, most likely that would be the line level connections, like the one between the amp and computer. The speakers are connected via a speaker level connection which wouldn't be susceptible to any radio interference.

Since we evolved from Dolby Surround years ago, you are going to have a hard time finding a 4.1 system. Just about everything these days is 5.1+
 
i'll do 5.1 but I need something with smallish speakers, something square like these cambridge speakers wwould be awesome
 
anyone ever used Creative Labs Inspire T6200 set or the FPS2000s (pretty old circa 2001ish)

leaning towards a used set of T6200 because the speaker size is still small an square. The way the wife's desk is setup, I can't really use any huge speakers and the old sqaure cambridge ones are like the perfect size (like 3"x3")
