SPDIF on X-FI question

You will only get 5.1 if your program outputs surround-encoded sound directly to the receiver and your receiver can decode it. Because of Creative's infinite wisdom, the X-fi itself can't encode, so you won't get 5.1 with surround games.

when using digital out the X-Fi will output however many channels the medium was recorded in. This means that most games will be 2 channels, most movies will be 5.1+ and most music will be 2 channels.

You can get a digital coax w/ 1/8" plug on one end from bjc for less than the combined cost of the box you're looking at and a decent coax

yes, the mic in/digital out flexijack. You just set the card to digital out and get the special cable like I suggested
