Ok, im going to be modding my xbox soon, and i want to make some of the leds im adding look cleaner on the front, i want to use something along the lines of 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm fiber optics to pass the light thoughs small holes in the front. Google searches havent turned up much. What else besides fiber optics what could i use to achive the clean front look? also if i can find the fiber itself, how would you go about drilling the hole and preparing the LEDS so i get the best light transmission?

thefiberopticstore.com

they have a sample kit for like a buck, so you can see what size you need

Just hack up a couple of $5 TOS links used for DVD players.
Great idea, I was wondering where I could get some cheap and local.

If you have a junkyard in your area, take a look at some Cadillacs. I owned a 1978 Coupe De Ville, and found that the headlights and tail lights had fiber optics connected to them. If I remember correctly they are about 2mm to 3mm diameter. As for connecting to the LED's, I have used heat shrink tubing to join them.

eBay isn't always the safest place. If I can I try to avoid it.

Actually, I'd rather buy through Ebay sellers than many of the no-name retailers on the web.

With Ebay, you can see all their rankings right in front of you. And if your deal goes sour somehow, you've got paypal to back you up and return your funds.

All you have to do is make sure you are buying from a decent seller. Much like buying retail, if you dont check out their reputation beforehand, you can get burned.

Lol, so many ideas, guess i got some stuff to do this weekend, i checked out ebay but all i could find was sutpid novilty stuff and some smaller stuff than what i needed. now to figure out how to drill and mount the stuff.

Yeah ebay is safe, but paypal isn't, thats why in my opnion i dont like shopping on ebay. I was going to start shopping thru ebay until i found this site. http://www.paypalsucks.com/ and almost everyone uses paypal for payments. :(

get one of the fiberoptic audio links, the toslink, like mashie said. everything else mentioned is probably more expensive and less practical.
