im getting a new computer very soon and i'd like to buy an awesome sound card and awesome headphones as well.
i'll be using my computer for gaming, movie watching, and listening to music - that order does not necessarily reflect precedence. however, it's safe to say i'll be spending an extensive amount of time on gaming.
in terms of soundcard, obviously i want something that will perform well in all previously mentioned categories. i'll spend around 100 dollars canadian, perhaps a bit more if i can get something that much better. as well, i would prefer something that didn't slow down gaming - i've heard about sound cards that detract from fps. i would consider getting a card with that tendency if the sound quality would offset the resultant negative impact on gaming fps. simply put, i'm open to just about anything.
with regards to headphones, i was thinking about the sennheiser hd580's or the hd550's - both of which i can obtain easily for around 200 bucks.
looking forward to some valuable input!
