Sound separation between applications

Not sure how to search this so I thought I would ask here. Also not sure if it would be better answered in the HDPC section or not but will start here as a basic.

Here's the set up first:
Windows XP Pro
SB Live sound card
USB HIFI sound going to Bose Entertainment system.

Is there a way to configure things so that the sound from an online radio station goes through the USB HIFI to the Entertainment system while keeping the computers system sounds going through the sound card and system speakers? Don't like the that you have to manually change the device to one or the other. Or is it time for a basic HDPC system on the network....
 
Yea sure.

Say you want the USB card to playback music from Winamp and the Live card to playback gaming sounds.
Configure the Live as the default playback device (not all games allow you to choose what card you wish to use so we cheat) and configure Winamp to use the USB card as it's playback device (just about every media player I have ever seen allows you to select the a no windows default card in it's options).

Now the tricky part is you have to install two instances of your media playback software to keep from having to change the settings when you want to use the other card
An example--->
I have Foobar installed in two locations (C:\emufoobar\ and C:\AV710Foobar\) and each version is configured for a different sound card.
Want both cards to playback the same thing?
Use a Y splitter to patch the USB card into the Live card and un-mute the line in.
 
I forgot to add the application that he is using to listen to internet radio is Launchcast radio through the webbrowser. So I'm not sure if it could be done to install IE in two places. But will pass the information along. Thanks for the help.
 
IE (with the attendant WMP) isn't a "real" Media Player, because it won't let you select a non default output device. Foobar and Winamp will.
 
Internet Explorer is NOT a media player, and why would you want to waste system overhead on something like a web browser when all you want is the streaming audio? Get a real media player.
