Sound Quality

Does anyone here know of a site with a sound quality comparison? Ive seen people here exclaim that their new sound card sounds better and so on. But back when the sound blaster live was released I purchased one mainly for eax, I generally didnt notice a quality improvements in any form.

Right now Im using my asus a8v onboard and letting my sblive value collect dust. (should I put my sblive back in? I think its getting past its prime despite its features) I still use my cheap monitor mounted speakers that I have kept from the pentium 1 era. I mainly use my sony earbuds for everything. (dont have the room surrond sound and dont want overly powerfull speakers)

Just wanting to make sure im not ignoring the audio side of things.

i find that www.tomshardware.com has some good reviews. but im sure that there are (many) other people who 'beg' to differ....

unless you have something like a vintage isa sound card or a staticy card, sound quality should be virtually the same. focus on the speakers/headphones first.

With the amount of EMI and RFI inside a computer, you should probably stick with any good quality card that has a digital output on it, so its not getting noise in the analog signal, since it will only be digital while inside the physical computer case.

This is exactly the reason I'm shopping for an outboard DAC at the moment, to use my headphone amp without picking up the computer's noises.
