So my Audigy 1 is pretty much on it's last leg so I have been looking around for a replacement card....

so far I havent been able to find anything worthy of my time or money, so I ask.

For under 100 (preferably less than 80)

What is the BEST sound card to get (bang for buck)?

I use my sound card for gaming (UT3, etc), and i'm very finicky about my music...so I need great sound.

Help!!!!

Also If you have other suggestions in lower price ranges that would help.

I need something extremely stable and reliable.

Yeah i was thinking that too, but creative doesnt seem to have as much love as it once did.

I'll wait for a few more opinions then make a decision.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829127002 its 99 dollars If you have XP then you fine.

Its another option, be warn if you use Vista and have 5.1 speakers your not gonna get 5.1 in games that doesnt do 5.1 in software mode, you just in up with 5.1 in some games. while 2 channel in another.. plus you will not get 5.1 in openAL games any way.

Its another option if you dont want a creative card. If you use headphones or a reciver then it be enough for you. It also only supports up to Eax2.

So if you want Eax3-5 you will have to get that XFI Extreme gamer.

The Asus D2X came out a day ago and it supposly using something called DS3D-GX that seens to work like Creatives Alchemy in vista but its in the drivers instead and gives you 5.1 etc like alchemy does in games with vista that normally wouldnt with the DS hal gone.

its 189, same price as the Auzen XFI predule which another choice. And its what I have. But for under 100 then teh XFI Extreme and the blue gears are two i would recommand depending on your needs or if you dont want another creative chipset sound card.

If your using XFI then your have nothing to worry about with the blue gears card.

Well the reason for urgent upgrade is:

UT3 crashes my computer

2.0GHZ Athlon 64
2.5GB Memory
Windows XP Home
eVGA 7600GT
Audigy 1

are my current specs, so the culprit has to be the sound card...since the rest looks fine... and it crashes when i start a new campaign..the tankish thing rolls through then the sound just loops and loops and i have to restart

did you patch your UT3 to the newest patch. because that was a problem with the compain mode in UT3. and they supposly fixed it with the patch.

Because before the patch it happened to every one reguardless of the sound card.

The audigy 1 is still a fine card.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for the audigy.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard.

If you haven't patched UT3 yet.. patch it.

How is the dust situation in you PC case?

Have you run memtest86+ to make sure you don't have a faulty stick of RAM?

What are your CPU temps like?

What about other temps?

What apps/jusnk do you have running in the background?

If you don't have good anti-malware programs I suggest downloading and scanning regularly with Spybot S&D(also immunize) and Adaware.

When was the last time you defragged the hard drive?

What about wiping the swap file (disable, reboot, re-enable)?

What about the temp folders? What about clearing out/disableing prefetch?

took care of everything and it still locks up.

granted it goes further through the intro video than it did...but still locks up.

i'm a UT3 player also. only an x-fi sounds worth a damn on this game-and i've tried my realtek hd, an envy chip, and a c media chip
