Ok heres the situation :) I want to get a new vcard with my next Upgrade
Im stuck on an X800pro or a 6800GT

I've had more ATI then Nvidia mostly because of image quality and the flop of the FX Series. Plus the cheating drivers..... I don't want to get stuck with a card that will only preform well with certain driver paths :/ but I don't want to spend the same amount of money on a card thats slower then its Nvidia Counter part either. With all the crazy reviews goin on I want some input on which I should get. please no fan boy comments, just some sort of informed advice ^^ my system is going to be a KV8 Pro with a 3000+ and possibly 1-1.5gigs of ram

well if your Limited to just those two cards, then the 6800GT is the way to go for performance, however i pre ordered my x800xt plat edition for 459.

jesus, not another thread about this. SEARCH the forums, there has to be 10,000 posts about this subject.

IMO:

6800U ~= x800xt > 6800GT > x800pro.

I have an XT on pre-order, but if I were not looking at paying Ultra / XT prices, I'd go for the GT.

aha if u see the time it was posted it was about 1 week ago :) and this isn't a GT VS XT thread :p or a VS thread period, I just have a certain buget and I don't want to get the wrong card :) all the other threads by the way turn into flame wars :p

Look at the info available and make a selection, there are a lot of threads on the subject, I'm sure you'd be able to find the info looking at them. :)

Dont forget the noise and power requirements of the 6800gt. Most people I've talked to who've gone from the 9800pro to the 6800gt have found the noise of it unbearable especially if they have semi-quiet systems.

Dunno who "most" are but my 6800GT is quieter than my P4's HSF in windows. So it's very quiet - can't hear it over my Intel stock CPU fan. Also, many with 220w PSUs have put 6800GTs in SFF cases, so apparently power isn't really an issue either. So I'm not sure what you are talking about.

I dont think power will be a problem for me I have an emermax 365 and a 465 in my other system if I need to swap ^^ plus i have an AC in my room along with 2 120mm fans in my case so i dont think noise is gonna be too bad ^^

both cards are of equal performance, however I would tend to lean towards the 6800gt because of it more advanced architecture and being nvidias drivers are virgin still and should gain more performance as time passes.

Well I have a quiet system and my 9800pro is quiet. I had to put a gainward Ti4200 in my box for a while and the thing drove me crazy. 6800gt is louder than that. For those that care about noise, 6800gt is too loud for them.

Have you actually owned a GT or just heard hearsay? My friend has a Gainward ti4400 and recently got a BFG 6800GT OC and feels the 6800GT was the same or quieter than the ti4400 and he owns both.
