Hi all,

I'm trying to hook my PC (with an AIW 8500 with component HDTV adapter) up to my roomates 36" HDTV Sony (KV-36HS20). It says it works in 480i, 480p, and 1080i. I can't get it to work in 1080i. Does anyone have any experience with this or any tips for HDTV viewing using ATI Cards? I'm using the 3.10 catalyst drivers.

Try using Powerstrip (google for it).

That said, 1080i is interlaced. I don't know if you can get your graphics card, which is designed to put out a progressive (i.e., non-interlaced) signal, to send an interlaced output.

You could try 720p instead. Most HD sets will upconvert 720p to 1080i automatically, because while 720p is still used for HD content, few sets support it natively.
 
I've read in a few places, mostly Home Theater sites that you need to use power strip to play with the resolution and monitor drive settings to get a decent image with no overscan.

I'll look into powerstrip tonight. Oddly enough the TV says it only supports 480i&p and 1080i (no 720p). That could easily be why I could only get it to do 480p. I'll post here with any results.

As I mentioned above, it's not all that odd that your TV does support (i.e., display) 720p. However, if you feed it a 720p signal, it'll almost certainly upconvert it to 1080i.
