My recently purchased 74gb raptor with 8mb cache takes 40 seconds on average to boot into windows. The impression I got from other forum members is that my raptor is on the slow side. I have heard that I would have gotten the same results if I just put my 300gb seagate 7200rpm 16mb cache HD in raid 0 (many people with that configuration say they get 40 second boot times into windows). Can other people with similar HD configurations (raptor or raided 7200rpm HDS) help me figure out whether my new raptor is weak?
 
40 seconds? Depending on the amount of bloatware on the machine, that could be quite slow or quite fast.

My SFF system can completely restart (desktop back to desktop) in 60 seconds, with a lowly single Barracuda 7200.7.
 
I don't know if consistent 40 on fresh windows install and nod32 antivirus at start up counts for bloatware, but I get 40 seconds all the time. Could the fact that I haven't registered windows yet be hindering my boot speeds?(during windows boot up, there's this blue tag at the lower right hand corner saying "dont forget to register windows", then boots to my desktop.

run the WD diagnostics and see what it spits out.
 
Smart status = pass
Quick test = pass
speedfan HD diagnostic indicates 96% performance 96% health
I have the feeling I am just counting wrong....
 
Does that count your POST screen or just the windows XP screen with the scrolling blue bar at the bottom?

then maybe you should consider that you are measuring a different boot time than the other kid in the thread that you made previsouly. I think that it would be benefitial for everybodys understanding and the speed at which you arrive at a solution to your problem, if you kept a single topic, instead of multiple threads.

I count the time from when i press the power button (usually 2 - 3 second delay) to when I see my desktop.
