Something confusing me about headphone volume

use onboard Realtek sound, headphones are Alessandro MS-1, and my volume sliders in volume control and Realtek's audio program are at max

now here is what is confusing me. there is a huge difference in volume level when using youtube to play a song and playing the same song in WMP.

I would estimate that the equivalent volume level is that the WMP volume slider is at 30% while the youtube volume slider is at 100%.

anyone have an idea the reason for this? thanks

there's also a difference with my speakers, but not as pronounced

You're saying you downloaded the song off youtube and played it in wmp? I wouldn't say that is cause for alarm.

if you're comparing the same song, one of which is a better quality rip/direct from the CD, and the other is on youtube, wouldn't be surprised at all

if you're comparing separate songs, don't even bother worrying, too many variables have changed

honestly youtube is crap quality, not a lot you can do about it

Because Youtube does hard limiting on all audio sent to them. It is to deal with videos people have recorded with low sound levels, but also makes some music louder.
