OK I'm building my own case to put an xbox in, and naturally that means putting together my own cooling system. The case is at this point, probably going to be a Thermaltake Tenor(which means a pair of 6cm suckholes in the back and an 8cm blowhole in the front)
I can make my own 8cm holes in the top and bottom if need be. The situation: I can't figure out how to get the exhaust and intake levels to be within 10 CFM of each other. The limitations are that I'm using 4 28.4 CFM fans on top, a 32.5 CFM fan in the front, a pair of 16.1 CFM fans in the back, and more if need be. I want it set up to be front and bottom for intake, top and rear for exhaust. The things i need to know: (1) what other 8cm-sized fans and PCI-slot fans, if any, should I add in to make it more balanced, (2) which fans should be intake and which should be exhaust, and (3) which pairs of fans should I pair off? I want it to be set, obviously, so that an intake fan and an exhaust fan, both with similar CFM ratings, to both be on the same rheostat so that I could turn down the noise without worrying about throwing off the balance of air passing thru the case. I don't have a window on the case, but I'd still like it if the fans were all aluminum fans, because it looks more professional for the fans to match the case when I open it up to show it to my friends, and because aluminum acts like a heatsink. Fan plug type matters nothing to me, because I'm gonna be stripping it down to bare leads anyway so I could color-code the wires and so I could use bare-wire rheostats without having to pay a million bucks to add on molex connectors. Since it's an xbox, RPM monitoring doesn't matter at all, I'll take suggestions with or without RPM monitoring. All that matters to me is a balance of intake and exhaust at any speed, and the ability to go truly silent at lower speeds.
