Some programs don't run on new HDD

First, the necessary system info:

ABIT IC-7MAX3
p4 3.0c
2 gigs RAM
Windows XP Home edition
1 WD 36GB Raptor
1 IDE Seagate drive 160GB (this is the problematic one...)
1 Liteon DVD -+R/RW Drive

Okay, I just installed this seagate drive, it works fine in windows-- I can write files to it, read from it , etc. but it seems that any program that needs to use the DVD drive to make sure there is a cd in it ( like games do) won't run! The splash screen for the game comes up, and as soon as the DVD drive starts spinning, the program closes. No error message, no error sounds. It just disappears. This has happened with 3 different programs, which is all I have had time to install so far onto the new drive.

The raptor (SATA) is my original drive, and everything runs fine on it. The DVD drive is the only drive on IDE channel one, and the new HDD is the only drive on channel 2. The jumper on the new drive is set to master-- I tried other settings, but all it resulted in was a failure to boot. The DVD drive is set at its factory default jumper settings and has always worked fine. I couldn't find any useful info on Liteon's website.

Someone please help! I am a noob when it comes to IDE stuff!
 
Did you install Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools, or an older version of CloneCD? A lot of games won't run with those programs installed.
 
nope, never used any of those progs. Also, since my first post, I have swapped the IDE channels the HDD and DVD drive are on, it had no effect.
 
what drive letter did the cd-rom used to be on? Bet it got moved by one and now when the progs do a CD check it finds the new HDD.

I thought of this, but programs installed on my first hard drive still start up. It's only programs installed on the new HDD that have this problem. It's the most puzzling problem I've ever seen. :(
 
did you install all the drivers, progs, etc. for both your hdd and your dvd drive? also: is the jumper on the back of your dvd drive set for M, S, or CS?
