Some notes on 5.02

Two things I have noticed in 5.02.

1- -forceasm does indeed make it fold faster, almost double speed in some cases.
2- If for some reason your computer comes to an unplanned stop (like when your screwing around inside a running machine and bump something you should not have) and you restart, take note and see if your speed didn’t suddenly drop way off. If you simply stop the program correctly ctl+c and restart it your speed will come back.

I lost that log file but it noted a malfunction and resumed at un-optimized speeds. Upon a normal restart it fixed itself and worked at full speed.

Just stuff I noticed

how can you get the -forceasm flag when running FAH as a service? is it in the service config? (i could figure it out if i played with it, but i haven't, so i don't know how)

i may go for the upgrade if the -forceasm speed increase only occurs with 5.02 as opposed to 5.00.

in your registry the key is:

HKLM ->System->CurrentControlSet->Services

You should see FAH@C:+ something or other

Change the ImagePath to whatever options you would like!

What other flags should we run? I haven't been following the updates or the forums for a few months and I'm a bit behind.

If you've an AMD box then none.
You want Tinkers as they run around 75% faster Gromacs.
So without any flags then you get a 50/50 mix Tinkers/Gromacs without any DGromacs which fold slower than Gromacs.
Its not worth aiming for timeless Tinkers as they dont have the same speed boost as normal Tinkers.

Not sure for Intel as I have no Intel boxen.

Luck.......... :D

Thanks for the AMD/Tinker/Timeless Tinker info TB. Was wondering. No intel here anymore either.

The reason things slow down after a reboot (planned or not), is because if you are running a Gromacs unit, FAH will look at the reboot as an improper shutdown of the core and will not turn on SSE. Just look at your log after a reboot, if running a Gromacs unit you will not see the Extra SSE boost OK. line. The -forceasm flag changes this behaviour and the client will ignore what it thinks was an improper shutdown and will set SSE on. I have proven this on 2 of my AMD boxes, Intel might be different I don't know.
