Hey Folks,

No one can seem to give me a straight answer to these questions but...

What is the general effective range for your average WiFi router? Are there routers with longer ranges? What are some options out there for longer distance (500-600 ft) wireless communication?

Thanks!

Ben

the router by itself will not increase signal distance.... you have to have a strong signal and high sensitivity in both directions.. with large antennas and hacked router for power... its WAY more powerfull and sensitive then my pc card... so i got a little bit a distance but it adds up no more then say 400 feet... perhaps a bit more... with that same router and a nice external antenna for a pc card wifi... i could prob double that...probably more if clear line of sight

there is no straight answer... but my router i belive is the most reliable and modifiable to get longer range
its a linksys wrt54g $60
also got the linksys high gain antennas for it $40
also installed custom firmware to increase the power level the transponder gets

hope this helps
