Ive got a 3800+ X2 I am trying to help a roomate overclock. He is on a tight budget so his whole setup is a "Hand me down" of parts. I need recommendations of the cheapest heatsinks that will keep this thing cool if we manage to hit 2.6ghz as our goal. Thanks for any help. So far ive been looking at the Arctic Freezer 64 for 25$ shipped but ive been told it may not keep it cool enough. Anything else out there?

Edit: I can also get the Thermalright Ultra 90 for 23$... is this as good as the Arctic Freezer 64?

Have it on my 4000 OCed to 2.9GHz and at 1.5v and it usually idles around 34-36 Cº and never gets higher then 45 Cº at full load, then again I also have a 120mm fan blowing right on it feeding it with air and a 120mm right behind exhausting that air. Its a great heatsink for the money though.

Thanks for the info.. its so cheap I picked it up... comes with a free fan... Panaflow M.

I may need to fit this with a 120mm fan... im seeing temps of 65C under max load.. I hit 2.8ghz @ 1.38V. It idles in the upper 30s. I assume this would run hotter then yours being its a daul core? The temps with this heatsink were about 8C cooler at stock clock vs. the retail heatsink I had. Is 65C to hot for a 3800 toldedo?

my opti 180 maxed out at 54c after 9 hours (at work) with toast and two cpuburnin instances passive with the ninja mini. at the moment it is idle at 33c and i have it running at 2.62 according to everest (218 system clock) you should be fine with a 120mm even if you don't have great case flow. the chipset cooler and passive vga all run very cool as well but i am coming from a barton-m so i may be more excited then i should. that thing was crazy hot. the vent o=at the top of my case is inline with my 8500 though so cool air flows right through the fins.

Don't know if this will help but I'm running Big Typhoon and my load is 65-70, 32-38 idle, just FYI.

Good luck.
I can't help you cause my ABIT uguru just failed me, but I'm running stock HSF on my x2 3800 939, sans fan, and its great @ 2200mhz
sorry

Opteron might have a higher casemax. I had an Opteron dual core at 2.8ghz and it woul hardly ever hit 50C under full load with a Scythe Ninja.
