SMP Maintainance?

Hey guys. Its been a while since I could post, but I am still folding, no worries. I have a question about maintainance and upkeep for the SMP client. I have been running quite stably for the last couple weeks since I started using Vista and even after I overclocked. This morning however I came to a problem in my SMP and decided to restart the computer and thus see if I could restart the SMP. I got the same error again though.

Do I need to delete the work folder or something? It seems like it is getting hung up on the startup and my only guess is it cannot find the file it just downloaded in the work folder.

You know I installed NOD32 last week actually. I had been running without any virus protection at all up until then. I am doing a free trial so I have some time to figure out what setting or anything I can adjust to allow the folding to work. I guess just disable active scanning according to that thread.

It would be nice to get something worked out so I could leave this antivirus going. It seems to be a hands down favorite to computer enthusiasts. It did a complete scan of my computer the other night in about 9 minutes. I know I don't have a whole lot on my computer, but it just seems to be a real stream lined program that doesn't use much memory or processor resources. However, the only way it is obtrusive, is unacceptable.

Did that work for you? I excluded both the FAH folder and the work sub folder (just in case) and it still didn't help. I wonder if NOD32 might be more forgiving on XP than it is on 64 bit vista...

I have been working with ESET for at least 4 weeks now...at least they haven't given up on me. I got them folding too ...and they said there was no conflict (I think they were only using the standard console and not the SMP version. Another day - another email to tech support. Normally I would drop the program since this is such a pain in the but Norton and Mcaffe both blow.

Solution = for folding only boxes run naked without virus protection. As long as your behind a NAT firewall and aren't surfing etc your frontal exposure to attacks is pretty small. Plus it takes me under 45 minutes to rebuild an xp box with dual smp's, FahMon, Affinity Changer, and installing all the drivers

I have 1 4gig usb drive that has everything I need on it. Just my .02

Mine SEEMS to have worked to just exclude the FAH folder in C drive. I have downloaded and started working several work units since I excluded that folder without a problem. It may take a while though because I folded all weekend without a hitch and then Monday morning it hung up on me.

Cross your fingers though. I really like this anti virus software. Time will tell if they can maintain the crap free badge or if they will turn into Norton/Mcaffee.

I'm glad it's working for you. What OS are you running and is it 32 or 64 bit?

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Not to add on too much more (and risk looking like an idiot if it turns out to be bad antivirus) but I really appreciated that they allowed me to do a 30 day trial. It means a lot to me that they are proud enough of their product to let me use it for 30 days, and buy it if I like it.

If it turns out that this ruins my folding, I can always just not pay for a license and look for something else.

Running the same here on my main boxen, with two SMPs. Not had any real issues to speak of when it concerns folding.

Sorry....I missed something earlier. I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit, but I'm using AVAST AV. I still had to exclude my FAH folder, because Avast picked up a WU as a potential Virus that I had asked about in a previous thread...

Thought he was having issues with SMP & Vista64 instead. I'm not using NOD.
