ok so i tried to setup folding using the SMP client, i downloaded 6.23 and then dropped in 6.24 and before dropping in 6.24 i already installed via install.bat

now when i run it it gets the work unit and then says program can't start because deino_mpich2mpi.dll is missing

anyway to fix that? or where do i get this dll file?

Did you install the DEINO or MPICH version of the client? Since you're using 64-bit Windows, you have to run the MPICH version of the SMP client. DEINO will not work.

If you are running MPICH, try running install.bat another two times to uninstall and reinstall the MPI service. Also, make sure you run it with administrator privileges (right-click on it and select Run as administrator).

You should uninstall the SMP client you have right now, go back to the F@H site, download the MPICH version of the client, and install that.

Alternatively, you can forget about the Windows SMP client altogether and follow this guide to get more PPD out of your CPU: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1470698

just tried the mpich version and its only using 25% am guessing it is only using 1 core how do i make it do all four?

yup, in the target box its like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Folding@Home Windows SMP Client V1.01\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe" -smp

You're running in single core mode then. Do what Zero said and reinstall the MPICH client. You'll have to run the install.bat twice, one to uninstall then again to reinstall. I had a terrible time installing the windows client in vista and win 7 so I switched to notfreds VM. I recommend you run notfreds VM for much higher PPD.

just wanted to thank you guys for a quick and very useful replies thanks again

We are here to help.

Welcome to the fold!

Don't forget you can use the GPU client and get about 3 times the points per day that the SMP will push out.
