Bought two new Samsung HD2404UI drives. What showed up was re-branded Seagate ST20000DL04 drives. So I'm a little upset about that. What makes it worse is crystaldiskinfo shows one of the disk shows "BAD". I know not to always trust these disk info programs but since its a seagate I'm a little more warry.

I ran a full format and the other drive shows "OKAY". This drive initially had both reallocated sectors and the another error about "Start/Stop count", but after I ran it a few times it went away.

I'm running another full format on this drive to see what happens.

Anyone know if this is something to be worried about or not?

Spin up times can be a drive problem, not posting within a set amount of time. I have also seen spin-up time errors trace back to a power problem as often as it is a drive problem, so that may be something to look at as well.
 
Thanks for the quick reply. It is in a vantec hard drive dock, I may try and move it into the case to see if the error is still there.
 
Interesting, after the format the spin-up time went down to 66 / 66/ 0 threshold and the drive is "Good"
 
One more quick Q. Is this drive [pull from an iMac, so no RMA available] useful for anything, other than a paperweight? It seems to read and write data fine, for now, but I know reallocated sectors mean its on its way out, generally. Right? Or could it work on for years.?

Reallocated sectors do not always mean the drive is about to die. I have had a few drives here at work last a few years with a non zero reallocated sectors. However if the reallocated sectors grows each day / week that means a drive is on the way out. I have seen that behavior dozens of times since I monitor the SMART on all server drives using nagios. Although once nagios flags a drive I pull it from the raid and test using badblocks and usually at this point if a drive is going to die it will die within a few days of badblocks..
