Its a Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200RPM 16mb cache. Brand new been running for a day.

So I am away for about 30 minutes and when I come back I get the "Windows has recovered..." and it says Bluescreen as the cause. I then notice I am getting a SMART error report.

The only thing my computer was doing was downloading something so I have no clue why it crashed. It is a day old install of Vista Ultimate 32bit and all I've installed are drivers, updates, games, utilities (hardware info and temp readings).

The only thing I could think of is it is bad or Power Supply...but I have rebooted it many times and never had the problem until the crash.

Should I write this off as a bad report? I am running the seagate testing software as you can see and it passed the short test, but now I am running the long test.

As I finish typing this Windows just gave me a Hard Disk failing warning...bad drive?

A brand new drive should never give a SMART error so I suspect that it might be defective. Seagate should have software utilities on their website to help diagnose the error (or at least give you more details about what the SMART error is).
