Hey, my laptop takes FOREVER to start up now-a-days. even thou I scanned with norton and didnt come up with anything. ya i knoe norton sux, i use NOD32 for my desktop PC. but i dont wanna install it onto the laptop as of yet. I even did a system restore to the day when i got the notebook from dell. I am running out of ideas at this point and thinking of just doing a clean re-format and be done with it. any other ideas? does dell install those "hidden" partitions so i can just do a "restore to factory settings" type of thing?

Check the hard drive and memory for defects.

Use memtest to test out the memory and the hd manufacturers testing tool to check the hd.

Or just download the ubcd which has all those tests on it.

Good luck!

i ended up doing a restore to factory settings thing. it seemed to boot up faster. i am gonna try memtest tomm after work and see what it turns up.

ran the memtest 86 scan this morning for 40 mins and it came up blank. no errors of any kind. running the WD diag deep scan and i dont think anything else will pop up. this is soo weird.
