Slow file transfer...need help/ideas

Hey Guys,

Need help/ideas.

Just got this bad boy (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/ATOM/ICH9/X7SPA-HF-D525.cfm) to work with my adaptec 5805 controller and 6 x 2TB drives.

I had it in a E3-1230 system and it easily maxed my gigabit network (without jumbo frames). When I moved the array to this new itx board, my network transfers are maxing at roughly 70% link speed.

Issue is not the array as i get amazing read/write speeds directly on the array.

CPU is nowhere near maxed, nor is memory (8GB DDR3)

Ideas?

Created a RAM drive, same speeds. I guess its the NICs?

I should have mentioned that one side of this transfer was from the array, the other side was my ssd. So i know the bottleneck isnt the ssd.
 
To isolate the network, use iperf (jperf for a GUI) between the client and the server.
 
Used jperf... was getting 40%... odd. Maybe im doing something wrong with it?

When i did ALB (load balance transmit, singular receive), i was copying files off the array at 99% of the GB link. but writing back, same thing. about 65%
 
If you're getting slow transfer speeds with jperf you need to focus less on reading or writing back, and more on basic LAN troubleshooting. Swap out NIC cables, move ports, check drivers, etc.
 
I noticed your Adatec card is a PCI-Express x8. However your new board has only one PCI-Express slot and it is x4. This could be the root of your bottleneck.

Fixed. Best to be clear which element is "the root".

Jperf would know nothing about that Adaptec card.
 
Ya i was thinking maybe it was the array, but again, using a ram drive still only getting 65% network bandwidth. So i'm ignoring the array at this point.

I'm using brand new cat6 panduit cables, assuming its not them, but i'll try others. The server is in different switch ports atm... So i know its not the ports. I'm going to mess around with different drivers and see. Went all over the BIOS, nothing. Very odd.
