slow boot w/raptor + ide

ok, so i got my raptor installed w/windows and drivers and some programs etc...

when i put my old hdd on an ide channel, it takes about 20 sec to get past the first screen (where you can hit del to get into bios) then it takes about another 20sec to get past the next screen (where it verifies the dmi pool).

this is much longer than it did when i just had my old 80 gig seagate. wtf??? my bios is set up correct, w/ the raptor as the first boot drive etc... is this normal? i had my 2 80 gig seagates on sata w/pata to sata adapters, and it made it thru the two boot screens much faster.

ofcourse, once it starts loading windows, nothing beats the raptor.
 
My computer does the same thing.

I think it is the fact that the SATA controller is disbled by default, and is only enabled when you hook up a SATA drive. It takes a little longer for the computer to detect drives on both the ATA and SATA controllers.

It's the same way with PCI SCSI controllers. They always take a little longer to dectect the drives.
 
the only thing wrong with that is, if i only have my sata raptor plugged in, it boots super fast. it only happens when i plug my ide drive in also.
 
Right, because when you have the IDE and SATA drives plugged in the computer has to detect drives on both controllers instead of just the one.
 
Do you have quick boot and fast detect enabled in the bios? When my PC boots up it sits on the SATA screen searching for drives for maybe 5 seconds, I never see the POST because it goes by so quick and my monitor hasn't come back on yet.

Also what did you do to resolve the previous boot problem? Did you just delete the boot.ini like I said or something else?

actually, i got lazy, and just dont have it plugged in currently. the one im using is my other 80gig seagate.

as far as quick boot and fast detect, i will have to check when i get home.. thanks for the suggestion, i cant believe i didnt think of it myself
