Slimline DVD issues

Hi, just as i thought the latest project would benefit from a slimline CD/DVD rewriter i hit a wall. The problem may or may not be big - but i prefer advise prior to struggling.

Some background: Case is a Q11 with Asus GTX560ti - corsair PSU (shortie 600 CX) and the Lian Li slimline CD cradle (accessory). And then the troublemaker - an HP 8x DVD rewriter. (GT30L)
No MoBo installed as yet - still testing the component fitting - all done ok - cept for a last tweak on the H70 mounting options.

OK - Now for the problem:
The Slimline DVD is the first i ever used/will use in a (SFF) normal PC. And the problem is when i power it up then it's green power/activity LED flashes and it won't eject.

Using a spare PSU and a "temporary" power connection as i have no idea where the supplied mini 5xpin connector would go anyway (proprietary HP on MoBo?)
FYI - the supplied SATA + Power is a slimline version - with the power section having 2 x red and 2 x black leads.

I simply used some cables to connect the two reds to the PSU red 5V rail and the two blacks went to ground.
To double check i used my bench PSU (set current limiter real low to begin with) and it does the same. Pressing the eject button seems like there is a click or two but nothing happens,,,,power led light just blinks away.

Doing a manual eject using a pin makes the tray eject np.
Adding a CD seems to illicit a spin up but then all remains as before.

From what i deduced and via searching the scarce info it is simply a 5V supply.
When i get my MoBo i can try it on the same PSU but maybe adding the SATA would help something?
Never seen a CD/DVD needing SATA to power up & eject - so before i do the build i need this to be sorted as the slimline goes in first (major build so not easy to dismantle)

From Wikipedia the slimline SATA power pins are 1=device presence (not used), 2+3 = +5V and 4+5 are ground. (As i have it)
Cannot find this model on the HP site?
Found a LG with same model number.
Wikipedia has the only pic i have found of the power.

Above links show 2xcable connectors - mine has dual each so its likely the same but above pics "join" the two within the connector?

I guess I'm not following you to much, but the notebook dvd's require a different cable than a standard sata like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...=slim_sata_power_cable-_-12-123-341-_-Product . If you get one of these then you should be golden. Now on the other hand if you asking how to wire that up from a existing sata or directly to the drive then hopefully someone more experiences here can help.

My supplied connectors look "nearly" the same. Problem is that i have the flashing LED/won't eject and altho i'm "sure" i connected right - the functioning is not as expected.

So yip - someone that has some experience would e.g. easily say that if the power is ok (5V + ground) then it should work fine (no SATA required for test)
And if not then faulty / or / if flashing +- no eject then faulty
Or maybe this unit need something else?

Local suppliers have no clue.
Forget trying to get any other cables here either....(tho i do think that what i have is close enough/same.
Will post a pic if needed but my power connectors 2x red + 2x black instead of e.g. your links single red and black seems similar/same?

Thus I 'presume' slimline's work like normal internal units...meaning on power up / "on" = a briefly green LED, then it goes off.
And they eject when button is pushed. No SATA nor media needed.

But, i am not sure with this unit, so the Q - so we hope and see......

i had a problem where you placed in a disc and then ejected it afterwards trying another disc in same optical drive it wouldnt see it nor would it eject. i found by disabling the autorun feature of windows it now works as it should . maybe similar problem i dont know
