Slight problem with my 9800 pro.

It's only a slight problem, but when playing games I get a stuttering effect...such as, the game will freeze for a split second about every 10-15 seconds, so basically it goes runs fine, freezes, runs fine, freezes..and so on. I thought that my card might be running hot but i have no way of reading the temp...it also does this on videos, some things in the web, etc...

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Specs:

Gigabyte 7VT600-RZ(-C) mobo
AMD XP Barton 3200+ CPU
1 GB PC2100 DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 pro 256 (using Omega 2.5.76 drivers)
EZ Media 430 watt PSU
Windows XP

I just re-installed my old card a 9600, and i am still having the same problem...so it seems it's not the card, but something else :confused:
 
Maybe your ram is clocked too slow. You say it's PC2100, I'm sure you've overclocked it though, so whats the FSB?

Maybe your virtual memory is too low, increase it to 1500mb minimum and make sure it's in one green block in windows defrager.

Or maybe your AGP apperture size is too low, make sure it's at least 128mb, if it's already, increase it to 256mb.

You need new RAM, don't you? That PC2100 is probably too slow.

Is the card fully seated in your socket? Is external power (if any) connected fully and on its own line (I.E. not sharing with a hard drive or a CD burner)?

Does it stutter when it accesses the hard drive? Maybe try the Catalyst 4.10s and see if that fixes it? Do you have monitor drivers installed?
 
Did you just get the card? or has this been happening for a while. Yes, I would look at your virtual memory settings and increase the value there, make sure your AGP aperature in your Bios is at least 128, It may be the drivers your using. I would swap em out and try another version. Read the forum at the Nvidia camp, alot of 6800 owners have been complaining about game stuttering.
 
Thanks for the replys...this is a new card and at first i thought it might be a heat problem, but i put my old card back in (9600) and it had the same problem. It didn't start until i was trying to install some new 3200 RAM...but i will try these suggestions and see what happens.

What does speed of ram have anything to do with it?



To the poster. I would reinstall the video drivers again. Also make sure some program in the backround is not taking up your resources.
 
List of things to test

1) Power Supply
2) Vsync
3) Reinstall Drivers
4) Memory timings/settings
5) Update your BIOS
