SLI or AMR ?

This seems to be a very tough choice. SLI should be available within a few weeks, AMR boards using the new ATI chipset maybe early next year? It seems either way, I will be waiting till the end of the year to get ANYTHING.

For the Nvidia side, they will be available sooner, have SM3.0, are generally cheaper than ATI (and more widely available), and dont have the ridiculously poor supply. Plus their benchmarks in SLI have looked great. On the other side, the availability of any

For ATI, the tests they have done on the mb show great overclocking potential and (from what everyone has said, please confirm/deny this) ATI runs games much smoother than the Nvidia cards; while not higher fps, the fps are much more constant. However, I would have to not only wait for the ATI mb's to come out, but the new line of video cards too, since the current ones don't support AMR.

My indecision is this : should I wait for the ATI's and get smoother performace, or get nvidia now (soon) and get faster performance. What do you all think?
 
Read of a few of the Hard benchs. Nvidia and ATI cards provide similar 'smoothness'. I have more faith in Nvidia when it comes to SLI, they bought 3dfx.

i would wait for Benchmarks when both are avaliable. Then go from there. Plus, the new line of ati cards will be coming out and SM3.0 will be available.
 
they will come out, and be available 6 moths later (not fan boy for either side, both the same) you will drool over the new cards, but if you buy a card from either vendor, they will stay real world top of the range for 4 months.
also, i don't think that the sort of speed jump that we had this time will happen every time, i mean the ati refresh is a 20mhz core increase. you could oc that.

Much too early ? Did you read the original post? It is not too early to decide whether ATI would be worth the wait or not. I can buy nvidia now or wait on ATI.

On another note, ATI is not using SM3.0 on their new cards. They are reserving that for another new line coming out who knows when. If the ATI cards that are out now could use AMR, I would probably get one ATI card now, and wait on the board, then get another. Unfortunately, only the new ones will be able to use the SMR (at least thats what I gathered from the article).

Also, about smooth performance between ATI and Nvidia, many people who have been using the 6800's have reported buying one of the ATI's to try it out, loving the difference, and then selling the nvidia on ebay. This is what I have been reading in the forums, but I cannot personally cofirm/dispute it.
 
After experienceing both, Nvidia didn't drop as many frames as the X800 did. X800 had a slight IQ advantage with AF (noticing texture popping is minimal, but there on the 6800 in some games) as it gets filtered.

I choose my card because of the smoothness -- something I found with my personal experiences that ATi was lacking this round.

As for the AMR or SLI -- I'd wait...

Ok let's clear a few things up...ATI's SLI tech isn't even close yet. Their new motherboards are rumored to support it, but nothing has been said of when their videocards will. Best estimate I've seen thus far is late next year, so it's kinda a moot point.
