Can it be done? Especially with new cards out that require more space, is it possible to fit two inside a SFF case? Can microATX do SLI or are there drawbacks if you pull it off?
 
It is VERY possible, especially with a Micro Fly. I have an SN26p and it's really tight, but it still works well. If you are in Georgia, I am selling mine pretty cheap, PM me if you are interested :p
 
Unfortunately, I have no pics. You can google SN26p and look at some SLI systems, or look in the MASSIVE thread somewhere in this board about the eVGA mATX SLI board. I think it is near or past 30 pages now...
 
SLI is sort of a waste for matx, first off you are stuck with the evga board which is not bad but you are much better going Core2duo and getting an 8800GTS and being done with it.

I had a matx SLI setup it was a novelty but it wore off quickly.
 
It is also important to mention here (in response to PClark99), that 7xxx series SLI has been made obsolete by the 8xxx series, since any 7 series SLI is dominated by a single 8800GTS.
 
as i said, especially with larger cards out now, can sli with an 8xxx series be done in SFF?
 
It is possible, but generates huge amounts of heat. You should not expect to overclock.

It is pointless though, because the only SLI mATX board is 939, which means that there will be a huge bottleneck on the CPU. It really is not worth it until there is a C2D mATX board...
 
People demand too much from an SFF:p

I suppose you could do SLi in an SFF as Dworley has done but the purpose of SFF is cool, quiet, small, and portable (in general). Performance is something you achieve after that. If you worry so much about performance than I suggest a large tower case as this will handle any and all of ones power needs.

If you are building an SLI SFF then "cool" is obviously not a priority :p

However, all of my systems were built to be very quiet and perform as well as a tower system!

That's a hell of a lot of awesome for such a small case.

My NF-M2 gets here tomorrow. Obviously I won't be going SLI, but I will be getting a high end video card once I've built it. I'm very excited. Seeing your SLI builds DWorley is great. I'm sure an 8800 GTS will fit just fine in my Microfly :cool:.

I was saying that the point of SFF is to be cool...In other words, people aren't making cases and SFF parts to be top performance like tower systems. A tower SLi would rip up any SFF SLi in performance (given same video cards).

Yeah, you will be more than fine. The MicroFly is a good case and the NF-M2 nView is a good board for it :) Enjoy!
 
I've been very happy with my sn26p i just put a swiftech water cooling loop in it and happily run a 3800x2 at 2.5ghz 2 evga 7900gt's at core 580 memory 1580 (had to use koolance low profile blocks to fit in the space between the graphics cards. I have 3 hard drives i reversed the fans on the top to blow air in to cool the drives off. The machine runs nearly silently except for the hard drives accessing. I've been very happy and i can play every game at the highest settings possible @1280x1024. If you replace the psu with the highest end one that shuttle offers you could concevably run 2 8800gts in sli but even with x2 at 3.ghz it would still be a bit bottlenecked... i'd consider a core2 duo box and a 8800gtx (unless you need 4 monitors) it can be done and there is someone in the forum whose done it.
 
My Athlon X2 4400, 8800 GTS mATX system kicks ass in every game out there, including Supreme Commander so I'm very happy with it.

I am using the eVGA SLI mobo and could have easily joined my existing 7900 gt to another one in SLI mode, but chose to go with the 8800 GTS. Thats the problem with SLI type configurations is that unless you want to spend the money for the dual cards when you first upgrade, there really isn't a need for SLI later on. By the time your performance has dropped low enough to warrant a second video card, there is a newer video card available that will beat the SLI performance.

I could fit dual 8800's in my SG-01e case, even with the dual slot coolers, but why? I can run any game out there at my 1440x960 resolution with everything maxed (my LCD's prefered resolution). The only real reason for me to do SLI at this point is for ePenis size and that just isn't good enough.
