I just notice that this site is now running nginx as its webserver and not only that things are pointing towards it being on a gentoo server \o/ \o/ (well server is linux-based and the php build is a gentoo build

This is a (recent) change from FreeBSD and Apache

I was just interest in why the change? nginx is a great httpd and is /very/ light and can server out alot of content really easily and as long as you don't need all the bells and whistles of Apache it is an extreamly viable alternative (I personally perfer lighttpd but that is only because there is alot more docu and support from other webaps)

Probably because FreeBSD kept giving them problems over the last couple years. You were here, right? :p

yer don't remind me :D
just interested why they ripped out Apache as well.

Its one thing to change the OS, its another to essentially scrap all the httpd config and rewrite for a completely different httpd (nginx config isn't my cup of tea, I keep trying :( since it is suppose to be really light and fast)

Considering how often they had forum issues and downtime, I'm pretty sure they got a little desperate.

Well, they hired a new guy to get the problems fixed and that's probably what he felt was the best way to deal with them.

Our new VBull guys works best with Gentoo, hence that change. As for the turning away from Apache, you answered your own question.
