My girlfriend is looking to a buy a new camera, under $300, for just general picture taking. The main priorities are a small size, followed by picture quality and ease of use, followed by aesthetics (she would prefer a colored camera over plain silver). I was thinking either a slim Canon or Sony, because they are generally good brands but was looking for more specific suggestions. Thanks.

Anything from the Canon cybershot series. I got this for my mom who wanted simple (she asks me how to email attachments is how simple it needed to be). The only negative is no battery indicator but the battery takes an hour or so to charge and last for around 130+ pictures before beeping at me to charge up. It is tiny, uses cheap SD cards, no AA battery. The load times for the flash is very quick too. Nothing sucks like waiting 10+ secs to take another picture which is why mom was happy this camera is quick. I paid 210$ shipped for it so you should be able to find it cheaper. I don't like Sony and the fact that you have to buy into their brand and propietary formats which is why I didn't look into them. The images are beyond good, even printed on photo paper. I can post some pics from it if you want so just ask.

Gave my mom the camera for her birthday with an gig SD card, card reader and picassa. Now I can't stop her from emailing pics out, had to talk to her about filesizes and resizing images though :)

I know the camera doesnt have built in image stabilization tech as far as I know but no problems with that so far, even with close up detailed electronics pictures.
